Video of Sold Out Web 2.0 Panel

May 1st, 2008 — Amy Bills

Bulldog CEO Rob Solomon participated last night in a panel sponsored by the Austin Chamber of Commerce on “Today’s New Marketing Tools,” namely, Web 2.0 tactics such as blogs, video, LinkedIn, Twitter and the like. In fact, I chose a bird’s eye seat deliberately so I could watch the audience reaction to the event (yes, sometimes I channel CJ from The West Wing, so what?) and sure enough, there was plenty of what looked like Twitter activity going on.

The panel was sold out, and for the most part well received, although I picked up some comments from time-starved businesspeople in the audience that the question of how to make time for social media wasn’t really answered. The session came very close to turning into a panel on blogging, which to be sure is extremely time consuming, but moderator Thom Singer managed to steer it back to middle ground. Thom has posted some video from the event.

Rob did a great job on the panel. The feedback from the audience has all been positive and it was a fun and informative event.

As for the question about the time commitment to social media…. nothing good in life is free. Yes, there is a time element to social media. I think some want a magic bullet…the advantages of the social media without the time commitment. Sadly, we have not yet invented the way to have the cake and eat it too!

Great introduction to social media topic for a large (I counted about 200) group of small business owners. The panel as a whole gave some really great advice about what to be aware of, getting started, and tips for being successful in this very broad arena. And Thom, not surprisingly, did a great job facilitating and keeping things lively!
